This assignment has two parts. After reading the following articles and watching the provided animations, you will:

  1. Describe the changing weather conditions (temperature, pressure, precipitation, wind speed and direction, cloud type and weather [rain or clear] associated with the passage of a warm front. Be sure to describe whether the condition has increased, decreased, or remained the same .
  2. Describe the changing weather conditions (temperature, pressure, precipitation, wind speed and direction, cloud type and, weather [rain or clear] associated with the passage of a cold front. Be sure to provide specific details!

You may use a chart like the one below to record your observations:

 Type of front
Cold
Warm
 Temperature (rises or falls)
 Air pressure (rises or falls)

 Wind (speed and direction)

Type(s) of clouds during passage of the front
 Weather conditions

You may complete this assignment in a Word doc or in written form. If it's a Word doc, print it out before class on Tuesday!

Cold Front

The symbol for a cold front on a weather map is a set of blue teeth. I usually think of blue hands and chattering teeth to remember this.Cold front animation

Warm Front

The symbol for a warm front on a weather map is a set of red bumps. I remind myself that red is a warm color.

The animations are from http://science.nayland.school.nz/graemeb/yr12%20marine/oceanography/weather_lessons.htm but are originally from the NASA Athena website.

Use also the following websites to help you describe the passage of a warm or a cold front.
